FACES OF GLENFERRIE 16/6/08
FIONA
Early in my life I was involved in all facets of horse activity, including riding track work
over jumps. After the birth of my first son, Jeff my husband, and myself moved up north
and my other son Ian was born. At 22yrs of age, and having only ever experienced
thoroughbreds in the racing industry, I wanted to learn about Standardbred training
and racing. Where we lived there were many more race meetings for pacers than there
were for race horses, so after a 4yr learning period with a leading trainer, I obtained
my full license. I held my license for around 11yrs racing horses mainly in the Northern
areas. By 1986 I had enough of training andyearned for a tree change, wanting to return
to the lush Adelaide hills where I had spent my youth, and to working with
thoroughbreds.
We were very lucky to be able to purchase Glenferrie Stud from Peter Jolly, who had
set the property up for thoroughbred agistment. Myself and my family fell in love with
the place, and have been specialising in race horse agistment now for 22yrs. Before
moving to Glenferrie, I spent many years working as a vet nurse taking a special interest
in equine veterinary work. This was to be very beneficial for me, as for the last 22yrs we
have specialised in post operative care for race horses.
I remain here at Glenferrie in semi retirement, in a advisory capacity, and as a part time
stablehand. My son Ian who has been on a horse before he could walk, has now taken
over the running of our agistment centre. Ian has worked alongside of me for many years,
and now with his lovely partner Jodie, who is also a very experienced horse woman and a
past vet nurse as well, they are looking to making their own improvements, and continuing
to keep Glenferrie amongst the very best of race horse agistment centres.
THE FOUR LEGGED GANG 13/6/08
Here at Glenferrie there is more to the four legged gang than just the horses. We thought
we should introduce you all to the rest of the crew that helps keep Glenferrie going as a
successful agistment stud. Although they feel they should be rated above the thoroughbreds,
our two dogs run on an equal par to their equine friends. Introducing Oscar II (German Shepherd)
and Cooper (Lab X ??), whose active roles are to guard the property and of course be our
constant companions. Here are some shots of the boys being both puzzled and bashful on their
photo shoot....
And to finish things off...here is Oscar as a young fella at his most
intelligent best!!
